During a special executive session last Tuesday, Jan. 21, the Cazenovia Board of Education winnowed its list of candidates for the superintendent of schools position from 18 to six individuals, and this week planned to interview those six candidates to ultimately choose the final three.
The names of the six candidates selected by the board will not be released, said BOE President Pat Vogl. All that is publicly known of the candidate pool is that the applicants mainly were from the Central New York area, but some live in other parts of the state and a few applicants are from out of state.
This week, the BOE was expected to interview three of the current six candidates on Tuesday, Jan. 28, and three on Thursday, Jan. 30, Vogl said. By the beginning of February, the board expects to have chosen the top three candidates. They will be invited to Cazenovia to tour the district Feb. 11 through 13, meet with community stakeholders and be interviewed by community members, district administrators, teachers, non-instructional employees, students and the board of education.
The district recently solicited for eight to 10 community volunteers to serve on a committee that will interview the three final job candidates Feb. 11, 12 and 13. There was “a lot of community interest,” Vogl said, and the next step in the search process is for those community volunteers to be educated and trained on their search committee duties by Jody Manning, OCM BOCES district superintendent, who is heading the Cazenovia CSD search.
After the final interviews, the board expects to offer the position to one of the three candidates during an executive session on Tuesday, Feb. 18.
The new superintendent will succeed current Superintendent Bob Dubik, who announced his intention to retire at the end of the 2013-14 school year last July.
