Amid its busiest stretch of the season –four meets in a span of 10 days – the Baldwinsville boys swim team got an up-close glance at the dominant force in the CNY Counties League.
That would be Liverpool, who extended its perfect mark to 5-0 at the Bees’ expense last Wednesday night, the Warriors prevailing by a score of 98-78.
B’ville could not win an event until the 200 freestyle relay, when the quartet of John Sidorakis, Ryan App, Eric Johnson and Michael Boyce put up a time of one minute, 44.70 seconds.
Later, Boyce joined Kevin Atkinson, Clayton Dombrowsky and Zach Timmins for a victory in the 400 freestyle relay in 4:18 flat, but by that point Liverpool had long put the meet away.
Troy Miller led the Warriors, winning twice as he took the 50 freestyle in 23.84 seconds and added a 100 backstroke title in 1:00.73. He also swam a leg in the 200 medley relay (1:48.97), as did star senior Garrett Clarke, who prevailed in the 200 individual medley in a swift 2:01.56.
Swimming again on Friday night, B’ville visited Weedsport, and would make a quick return to the win column, working its way past that other group of Warriors 98-82.
Sidorakis would prevail twice on his own, beating App, 2:20.56 to 2:25.71, in the 200 IM, and also claiming a tight 100 backstroke over Weedsport’s Macauley Klonoko, with Sidorakis prevailing in 1:01.83 to Klonoko’s 1:02.21.
Johnson, second (2:14.12) to Klonoko in the 200 freestyle, would win the 100 butterfly in 59.70 seconds, exactly a second better than the Warriors’ Brandon Dietshe. App earned his title in the 100 freestyle, holding off Weedsport’s Jimmy Sterling, 57.36 seconds to Sterling’s 57.78.
Elsewhere, Steven Kulak won the 100 breaststroke in 1:17.04, comfortably ahead of Weedsport’s Allen Bocian (1:19.81). In the 200 medley relay, Johnson, App, Sidorakis and Boyce finished in 1:58.47 to top Weedsport (2:00.81) as, later in the meet, that same quartet improved to 3:53.88 and won the 400 freestyle relay again.
