Victories in eight consecutive bouts proved decisive for the Fayetteville-Manlius wrestling team as it won at home Wednesday night over Oswego in a 61-18 romp.
They started at 126 pounds, where Jack Kinsella lost a 9-2 decision to the Buccaneers’ Austin Coleman, but from that point forward the Hornets would dominate.
At 138 pounds, Paddy Quinlan followed up the forfeit to Jordan Neliplowitz (132 pounds) with a 23-8 technical fall over Jordan Perchway. Then Tristan Broddus, at 145 pounds, made it three in a row with a 10-1 victory over Jordan Atwood.
Forfeits to Kyle Elander (160 pounds) and Tim Byrnes (170 pounds) preceded a 182-pound bout where Chris Dobrzynski got close to a technical fall, but still beat Collin Dryden 14-1. Then Chris Bortel, wrestling at 195 pounds, pinned Zack Caruso in just 70 seconds.
F-M had one more streak before the meet ended, starting at 99 pounds, where Ben Nosovitch claimed yet another forfeit. Will Khalil needed 59 seconds to pin Tyler Blackmar at 106 pounds before Joe Falcone (113 pounds) finished off Mark Delong in 1:24.
As this went on, CBA/Jamesville-DeWitt faced a stiff challenge in the OHSL Freedom division, hosting Mexico, and started strong, but could not prevent a Tigers comeback in a 44-27 defeat.
Since they opened at 182, it played to CBA/J-D’s advantage, and Mark Friske promptly pinned Brandon Gracey in 1:10 before David Sayre’s 53-second fall over Ken Stevens at 195. Ethan Palmer (220) got a forfeit and Ben Honis, moved up to 285, pinned Jon Bouck in 3:50.
But when it switched to the lower weight classes, it was all Mexico. Ten of the remaining 11 bouts went to the Tigers, with only Arsen Bagiryan (126) breaking the string, and he needed all six minutes to beat Tylor Allard 8-3.
At least some of the matches were close. Cole Murphy, at 132, fell to Mitch Sambo in overtime 4-2, with Hamza Khatib (152) taking a 2-0 loss to Jay Kissilstein. At 138, Matt Lauro had an 8-3 defeat to Austin Whitney as Matt Griffin (99) lost to Austin O’Reilly 6-0 and Tucker Benedict (160) had a 7-1 loss to Trevor Allard.
