Kaitlyn Neal would beat 27 other runners and claim victory in the 3,000-meter run, giving the Skaneateles girls indoor track and field team a major conquest in Wednesday night’s Bob Grieve Memorial Invitational at SRC Arena.
All told, the Lakers had 19 points, putting them alone in eighth place. Fayetteville-Manlius again finished in front, earning 85.66 poitns as West Genesee (57 points) finished second.
In the 3,000, Neal ran in the second of two heats, pulling away from everyone except Liverpool’s Morgan Mahoney. As it wound down, Neal got away from Mahoney, too, and she crossed the line in 10 minutes, 34.57 seconds, topping Mahoney (10:39.04) by more than four seconds.
Madeline Adams made her way to fifth place in the 1,000-meter run in 3:12.59. Olivia Gage gained a point in the 300-meter dash, where she finished sixth in 46.04 seconds, and helped Katelyn Ellison, Amanda Wetmore and Ashley Bonocore take fifth place in the 4×200 relay in 1:55.81.
Keely Gregg cleared 7 feet 6 inches in the pole vault and earned fifth place. Natalie Roche got to eighth place in the triple jump with a top leap of 29’11 ½”. Alex Clark was 13th in the 55-meter hurdles in 10.40 seconds. Maria Schillace, Virginia Hamlin, Finan Malcolm and Jillian Van Leer were 12th (11:41.18) in the 4×800 relay.
A night earlier, in the boys edition of the Bob Grieve Invitational, Skaneateles picked up eight points, giving it a tie with Central Square for 13th place.
Most of those points came in the 4×200 relay, where the Lakers’ quartet of Patrick Biver, Griffin Lawson, Nick Smolenski and Connor Hill finished in 1:38.41, putting them in third place, with only Fowler (1:36.82) and Corcoran (1:37.09) faring better.
Biver earned the other points as an individual, going 38.38 seconds to finish fifth in the 300-meter dash, where Smolenski was 22nd. Hill just missed out on points in the 55-meter dash, finishing seventh in 7.01 seconds, where Davon Evans (Corcoran) was sixth in 6.95 seconds.
Cooper Watt, Jacob Blewett, Luke Leubner and Joe Capozza were 12th (4:00.45) in the 4×400 relay, while Griffin Lawson was 13th in the long jump, going 17’2 ½”. Sepp Martin threw the shot put 38’10 ¼” and finished 17th.
