Both of Baldiwnsville’s indoor track and field teams would find modest degrees of success during the two-day Bob Grieve Memorial Invitational at SRC Arena.
Though the girls Bees had the second turn on Wednesday, they easily outdistanced their male counterparts, picking up 36 points to finish fourth out of 21 sides. Fayetteville-Manlius won with 85.66 points, with West Genesee (57 points) and Liverpool (44 points) in the next two spots.
B’ville gained victory in the 4×400 relay. The quartet of Hailey Couchman, Marissa Lathrop, Katie Wicks and Cierra Allen earned first place in four minutes, 9.24 seconds, more than six seconds ahead of runner-up F-M (4:15.52) the finish line.
Twice, the Bees were runners-up in field events. Couchman went 16 feet 5 ¼ inches in the long jump, the same distance as Mexico’s Angel Bresnahan, but finished second because Bresnahan had a better second effort – 15’9”, as opposed to Couchman’s 15’6 ¾”.
It was a bit more clear-cut in the high jump, where Emily Soeder cleared 5’2”, beating everyone except East Syracuse-Minoa’s Nina Zesky, who won with 5’3”. Soeder also finished fourth in the triple jump, with a best effort of 31’10 ¼”.
Carlie McNamara, with a toss of 29’9 ½”, was fourth in the shot put. Lathrop was fifth in the 600-meter run in 1:46.41, with Wicks (1:50.40) in 12th place. Couchman, Brittany LaRock, Randi Bort and Maria Diamond were eighth (1:59.64) in the 4×200 relay.
Liz Wisely gained fifth place in the 55-meter hurdles in 9.92 seconds, with Hannah Wood (9.99 seconds) close behind in eighth place. Mia Bolton (5:17.38) and Kelley Hull (5:20.65) were ninth and 11th, respectively, in the 1,500-meter run. Elise Seyfritz was 15th in the 300-meter dash.
Going first, the boys Bees had 18 points, putting them in ninth place, though that was well off the winning total of 85 points that Liverpool posted in front of F-M, who gained 66 points.
Nearly half of those points came from the Bees’ runner-up finish in the 4×400 relay. Jeff Mahar, Dan Walker, Brennan LaQue and Brian Mahar finished in three minutes, 39.99 seconds, trailing only Cicero-North Syracuse, who won in 3:34.98.
Jack Martin, Josh Perez, Paul Moore and Arden Kellner took fourth place in the 4×800 relay in a time of 8:31.71. On his own, Kellner was 11th (2:56.32), just ahead of teammate Andrew Carter (2:58.69), in the 1,000-meter run.
Evan Donhauser, in the 55-meter hurdles, finished fourth in 8.79 seconds, while Sam Mahar got fifth place in the 55-meter dash in 6.94 seconds, ahead of Brian Mahar (7.03 seconds) in ninth place. The Bees took eighth in the 4×200 relay in 1:42.91.
Ryan Delola was 12th in the 3,200-meter run in 10:43.77, while Dennis Keegan was 13th (5:04.08) in the mile and Griffin Lynch took 14th in the pole vault. Harrison Warner ran the 300-meter dash in 40.10 seconds to finish 15th. Martin Sak was 15th in the long jump and Jason Ekure was 19th in the 600-meter run, with Zach Ravas 19th in the triple jump.
