Modest showings by both of Baldwinsville’s indoor track and field teams marked a close to 2013 as they both took part in Monday’s Oscar B. Jensen Holiday Relays at SRC Arena.
The girls Bees picked up 20.7 points, leaving them in ninth place, well off the pace that Fayetteville-Manlius would set as it won with 69 points in an event that featured solely individual events with two competitors apiece, and no four-person relays.
Nearly half the points for B’ville’s girls were earned in the high jump, where Emily Soeder and Bryn Judkins prevailed. Soeder cleared 5 feet 3 inches for second place among individuals behind East Syracuse-Minoa’s Nina Zesky (5’4”), and when Judkins cleared 4’6”, their combined 9’9” left the Bees five inches ahead of runner-up Westhill/Bishop Ludden.
Marissa Lathrop got fourth in the individual 1,000-meter run in 3:16.91, as she and Katie Wicks pushed to fourth place on the team side in 6:42.44. Brittany LaRock tied for fifth in the pole vault, clearing 7 feet for those points.
Hailey Couchman, in 43.72 seconds, got to fifth place in the individual portion of the 300-meter dash, but did even better in the long jump, going 14’11” as she and Hannah Moyer earned third place on the team side, going 28’7” to only trail Mexico (31’ ¾”) and C-NS (29’).
B’ville just missed points elsewhere, as Liz Wisely and Kayleigh Sattler were eighth in the 55-meter hurdles, while Mia Bolton and Kelley Hull reached eighth place in the mile relay. Nadine Dickter and Madison Gonzalez were ninth in the 3,200-meter run.
Meanwhile, the boys Bees finished with just 12 points, but saw John Martin win the individual 1,000-meter run in 2:44.35, holding off West Genesee teammates Jack Erhard (2:46.34) and Logan McAnulty (2:46.41), as Martin and Andrew Carter were fifth (5:44.73) on the team side.
And it was the same in the 600-meter run, where Josh Perez beat the field in a time of 1:26.65, ahead of Liverpool’s Alex Christensen (1:27.79) by more than a second. Perez and Carter were sixth in the team event in 3:06.07.
Sam Mahar, fourth in the 55 sprint, helped B’ville get its best team finish as he and Brian Mahar took third place in 13.94 seconds, behind Liverpool (13.67 seconds) and Fowler (13.84 seconds).
Evan Donhauser finish fourth in the 55 hurdles in 8.74 seconds as he and Alex Anselment were fifth (19.26 seconds) on the team side. Jeff Mahar and Dan Walker took sixth in the 300 in 1:17.53. Arden Kellner and Ryan DeLola were 10th in the mile relay. B’ville did not earn a point in field events.
