Just before hitting the holiday school break, the Baldwinsville boys swim team picked up its first win of the season.
Michael Boyce and Eric Johnson both claimed a pair of individual events, leading the way as the Bees defeated Fayetteville-Manlius 92-81 at Cazenovia College’s pool, which the Hornets use as a home facility.
Boyce was first victorious in the 200-yard freestyle, where his time of two minutes, 4.69 seconds gave him a comfortable margin over teammate Kevin Atkinson, who was second in 2:15.19.
Then, in the 500 freestyle, Boyce would pull away and prevail in 5:51.71, the only time under the six-minute mark. To cap it off, Boyce joined Atkinson, Braden Miles and Clayton Dombrowsky as B’ville, in a time of 1:46.89, edged F-M (1:47.06) to win the 200 freestyle relay.
Before hitting his individual events, Johnson also took part in a victorious relay, joining Dombrowsky, John Sidorakis and Ryan App as the Bees won a close 200 medley relay in 1:56.25, with the Hornets (1:57.68) just behind them.
Moving to the 50 freestyle, Johnson claimed first place in 25.43 seconds, while Dombrowsky (26.68 seconds) was second. Later in the meet, Johnson dominated the 100 butterfly, winning in 1:02.71, more than 13 seconds ahead of the closest F-M swimmer.
Sidorakis took his turn at the top in the 200 individual medley in a clocking of 2:21.14, with App (2:23.68) just behind in second place, and Sidorakis added a second-place time of 57.08 seconds in the 100 freestyle as F-M’s Chris Rettinger (54.37 seconds) won it. Justin Beckley was first in the 100 backstroke in 1:10.68.
Two weeks will pass before B’ville (1-1) heads back into CNY Counties League action, going to West Genesee on Jan. 3, and finally having its home opener Jan. 8 against Auburn.
