The North Syracuse Central School District has appointed Annette Speach as its permanent superintendent, cementing the role she has held in an interim capacity since Kim Dyce Faucette left the district last July.
The NSCSD Board of Education voted at its Dec. 16 meeting to enter into a three-year contract with Speach, appointing her superintendent. The contract is retroactive to July 1, 2013 and runs through June 30, 2016.
Under the terms of the contract, the board may decide by June 15, 2015 whether or not to extend the contract for another year.
For the 2013-14 school year, Speach will be paid $170,510. On July 1, 2014, that salary will increase to $180,000. Her predecessor made $182,000 a year when she left in July. She will receive a travel stipend of $200 a month in connection with the use of her personal vehicle, and the district will provide her with a cell phone and laptop. The contract also calls for Speach to be evaluated annually in executive session by the board of education.
Board President Pat Carbone said the BOE opted not to conduct a nationwide search for a superintendent.
“We felt that [Speach’s] 28 years of experience in the district as a teacher and an administrator certainly qualify her for the position,” Carbone said. “When Dr. Dyce left she was the best person for the job and that remains true.
He also noted that her tenure in the district had allowed her to form good relationships with the district’s stakeholders.
“Annette has established very good working relationships with staff, the district’s collective bargaining representatives, parents, and community members,” Carbone said. “She’s the best person to lead the district.”
