A pair of victories – one on the oval in the sprint medley relay, the other in the high jump – marked the Baldwinsville girls indoor track and field team’s successful season debut.
During last Tuesday night’s Jack Morse Holiday Relays at Colgate University’s Sanford Field House , the Bees managed 36 points, putting them in fourth place among the 20 that earned points. Fayetteville-Manlius and Cicero-North Syracuse tied for the top spot with 50 points as Skaneateles (43 points) finished third.
It was close at the top in the 1,600 sprint medley, but B’ville pulled it out. Katie Wicks, Cierra Allen, Elise Seifritz and Marissa Lathrop posted a time of four minutes, 34.17 seconds, just ahead of Skaneateles, who was second in 4:36.78, less than three seconds back.
Moving to field events, the Bees’ high jump tandem of Emily Soeder and Bryn Judkins came out on top. Soeder cleared 5 feet 2 inches to finish second among individuals behind East Syracuse-Minoa’s Nina Zesky (5’4”), but with Judkins clearing 4’2”, B’ville’s combined 9’4” got past F-M (exactly 9 feet) and the rest of the field.
Together, Hannah Wood (eighth) and Liz Wisely (10th) put the Bees into second place in the 55-meter hurdles, their combined clocking of 20.31 seconds only trailing C-NS (19.51 seconds) at the wire. Julia Kamide and Carrie McNamara were fifth in the shot put, getting combined throws of 56’8” as McNamara was ninth (29’ ½”) among individuals.
Hailey Couchman, eighth in the long jump (13’10 ½”), and Hannah Moyer were fifth in that event with leaps of 26’6 ¼” between them, while Hailey Jaquint went 31’ feet in the triple jump for sixth place as she and Kayleigh Sattler produced another fifth-place finish, going 59’3”.
Allen, Mia Bolton, Nadine Dickter and Kelley Hull made it to sixth place in the distance medley relay in 13:55.05, while Brittany LaRock cleared 6’6” in the pole vault and earned a sixth-place point.
Elsewhere, B’ville was ninth in both the 4×800 (11:31.72) and 4×200 (2:01.94) relays, just missing points on both occasions, and 10th in the 4×400 relay (4:44.89) as Seifritz was 13th in the 55-meter dash.
A day later, the boys Bees had its first individual competition at SRC Arena with the John Arcaro Memorial Invitational, and got to fifth place with 38 points, not even half the total of Liverpool, who finished on top with 79 points.
Josh Perez gave B’ville its lone victory of the meet in the mile. Pacing himself well, Perez fended off Auburn’s Justin Middleton to finish in four minutes, 30.21 seconds, just 1.22 seconds ahead of Middleton as Jack Martin, in 4:39.08, made his way to fifth place.
B’ville also got close to a victory in the 4×200 relay, where Dan Walker, Sam Mahar, Jeff Mahar and Brian Mahar finished in 1:37.68, settling for second place behind Corcoran, who won in 1:37.37.
Jeff Mahar contended in the 300-meter dash, getting to third place in 37.78 seconds, not far from the winning time of 37.05 seconds posted by Liverpool’s Ryheim Lawes. Sam Mahar, in 6.88 seconds, earned fourth place in the 55-meter dash.
Evan Donhauser had a strong showing in the 55 hurdles, taking fourth place in 8.81 seconds. Arden Kellner, Harrison Warner, Dan Conlan and Dennis Keegan were fourth in the 4×800 relay in 8:55.10.
Brennan LaQue got to eighth place in the 600-meter run in 1:31.95 and Ryan Delola was ninth in the 3,200-meter run, with the Bees finishing 10th in the 4×400 relay.
