The Cazenovia Board of Education held its annual reorganizational meeting July 9, at which it elected new officers, made its yearly appointments and approved its annual policies.
During a work session prior to the meeting, new board member Lisa Lounsbury, who was elected to the board May 19, was officially sworn in to her seat. Board member Kathy Hahn, who was reelected May 19, was absent but will be sworn in by the end of the month.
While the school board elects a new president and vice president every year, the retirement of longtime President Fritz Koennecke from the board left the head chair vacant. Members Pat Vogl and Cindy Tobin Bell were nominated by their fellow members for the presidency. Bell suggested Vogl be named president, after which the board unanimously elected Vogl as board president and Bell as vice president. Vogl has been on the school board for eight years, and is a past president.
The board also appointed members to its various committees, with Leigh Baldwin (chairperson), Vogl and Lounsbury named to the finance and audit committee; Bell (chairperson) Hahn and Karin Marris named to the facilities committee; and Jan Woodworth (chairperson), Baldwin and Marris named to the personnel committee, with Bell as an alternate.
The board also created a new superintendent committee, composed of the entire school board, which will focus on the hiring of a new district superintendent to succeed current Superintendent Bob Dubik, who retires at the end of the 2013-14 school year. Dubik announced his retirement in June.
Other annual appointments made by the board included Patricia Marzeski as district clerk and deputy district treasurer, Sheryl Conley as district treasurer, Julie Mattina as tax collector and Helen M. Curtis as claims auditor.
The board re-adopted all policies and codes of ethics in effect during the previous school year; set the district’s mileage reimbursement rate to be one-half of IRS guidelines, or 28 cents per mile unless different in collective bargaining agreements; and set the district building use fee at $40 per hour for the 2013-14 school year.
The board designated the Cazenovia Republican and Oneida Daily Dispatch as its official newspapers.
The board also set its future meeting and work session dates from now until June 2014. Regular board meetings for the rest of the 2013 year were scheduled for Aug. 26, Sept. 16, Oct. 21, Nov. 18 and Dec. 16. The 2014 meeting dates will be Jan. 27, Feb. 24, March 24, April 14, May 20 and June 16.
Work session dates for the board will be Aug. 12, 2013, and Jan. 6, March 10 and May 15, 2014.
