The Cobblestone will add a new 31-by-7-foot deck along Tulip Street. The new brick deck will be located in front of the addition that opened in 2004 as a roof-topped outdoor patio. That outdoor room was recently enclosed when weatherproof windows were installed.
Tavern owner John Gormel received approval to install the windows from the Liverpool Village Planning Board on Oct. 22. At the board’s Nov. 26 meeting, the planners accepted Gormel’s application for a revised site plan which proposes construction of a small brick deck at the Cobblestone.
The planning board filed a State Environmental Quality Review of the revised site and referred the application to the Onondaga County Planning Board. A public hearing regarding the Cobblestone’s revised site plan will be conducted at 6 p.m. Monday, Dec. 17, at the village hall, 310 Sycamore St.
The historic cobblestone building at the corner of First and Tulip streets is a Central New York landmark. A tavern first opened there in 1839, when it was known as the National Hotel, owned by Jonathan Hicks.
Another village business, the Talev Law Office at 201 Second St., is also seeking approval from the planning board for improvements to its parking lot. The two-story stucco building, which stands at the corner of Second and Vine streets, also houses Midstate Music, Inc.
Attorney Peter Talev plans to expand the building’s rear parking lot so that it could accommodate seven parking spaces, four more than it presently includes. While Talev’s revised site plan would cover approximately 23-by-40 feet of existing lawn with asphalt, it also calls for two walkways, one of concrete and one of slate, and increased landscaping next spring, including the planting of bushes and flowers.
“The shrubbery will enhance the appearance,” Talev told the planners. That visual enhancement will also benefit neighboring businesses, he said.
Planning Board Chairman Joe Ostuni Jr. asked Talev to return to the board at its December meeting with an improved site-plan map.
