A long-standing community tradition is readying to return next weekend.
The Minoa Fire Department Field Days is set for Thursday, May 31 to Saturday, June 2.
“It’s a community thing, a place for everyone to come and get together and meet their neighbors,” said field days organizer John Jarmacz. “It’s a tradition.”
The work to prepare has been happening since January, finalizing contracts, working on gambling and alcohol licenses and looking at bands. Committees of firefighters took on different responsibilities.
“It’s really a year-long process,” said Jarmacz.
The field days will kick off Thursday with the kiddie parade at 5:30 p.m., folllowed by men’s 2.5” pushball at 6:30 p.m. At 7:30 p.m., female-fronted cover band Adrenaline Crush will take the stage.
Friday will bring more pushball — 1.5” juniors at 5:30 p.m., 1.5” women’s at 6 p.m. and 1.5” men’s at 6:30 p.m. Classic rock cover band Rhythm Method will perform, beginning at 7:30 p.m.
On Saturday, June 2, the event will culminate with a “giant parade” at 6 p.m. Country cover band Fulton Chain Gang will finish off the evening, starting at 7:30 p.m.
Next year, Jarmacz expects the field days to be the biggest, yet — both the village and the fire department will be celebrating their 100th year.
