The Baldwinsville girls track and field team, coming off its big May 3 win over Liverpool, hit it big again on Thursday when it won the East Syracuse-Minoa Girls Invitational.
To earn that title, the Bees earned 132.33 points to surpass 15 other entrants, including Tully, who was second with 92.33 points.
Cierra Allen won the 400-meter dash in 1:01.85 as Mackenzie Ross went 2:23.47 to claim the 800-meter run ahead of Nicole Piontkowski in fifth place.
Further depth was shown in the 4×800 as Mia Bolton, Julia Johnson, Emily Thompson and Chandra Hewitt won in 10:31.83.
Allen, Angelica Tomaselllo, Gina Carnovale and Gabby Jordan dominated the 4×400, winning in 4:07.23.
Carnovale (12.99 seconds) and Jordan (13.09 seconds) were second and third, respectively, in the 100 behind Mexico’s Chelsea Beshures, who won in 12.97 seconds, and Beshures also took the 200 ahead of Quaneisha Ivey in third (28.48 seconds) and Julia Nagy in fifth place.
Carlie McNamara struck again in the discus, winning with a top throw of 89 feet 1 inch, more than six feet better than Nottingham’s Sanya Santorelli.
Annie Peterson needed 5:00.48 to finish second, right behind Tully’s Ashley Evans (4:59.74), in the 1,500-meter run. Rachael Miller (7:56.7) and Meghan Hull (8:04.2) were second and third, respectively, in the 2,000-meter steeplechase.
Emily Soeder cleared 5 feet for second place in the high jump. Stephanie Vasteno (7’6) and Lauren Fisher were third and fourth, respectively, in the pole vault. Hannah Wood was fifth in the 100 hurdles and Liz Wisely was sixth in the 400 hurdles.
Earlier in the week, B’ville beat Henninger 86-55. Carnovale turned toward the 800 and won that event in 2:29.0, while Tomasello took over in the sprints, claiming the 100 in 13.2 seconds and the 200 in 26.9 seconds. Jordan added a 400 sprint title (1:02 flat) as Allen took the 400 hurdles in 1:10.9.
B’ville also swept the distance events, where Miller (5:20) edged Bolton at 1,500 meters and Hannah Olds took the 3,000-meter run.
Carnovale worked her way to first in the long jump, going 14’9” as Emily Soeder cleared 5’2” in the high jump. Carlie McNamara continued her win streak in the discus, throwing it 86’11”, while Logan Hornsey had a first-place triple jump of 29’6”.
Vasteno and Nagy both cleared 7 feet in the pole vault. Vasteno, Ivey, Sarah Layton and Elise Seifitz were first in the 4×100 (53.9 seconds) as Ivey, Ross, Marissa Lathrop and Piontkowski ran the 4×400 in a top time of 4:41.0.
During Saturday’s South Jefferson Invitational, the B’ville boys team picked up 70 points and finished second to Cicero-North Syracuse, who ended up on top with 183 points.
Shut out of any points in field events, the Bees made up for it on the oval as, in the distance medley relay, Alec Peinkofer, Andy Fleming, Nate Wicks and Josh Perez prevailed in 10:45.3, nearly a full minute ahead of the field.
In the 4×400, B’ville won again as Matt Pond, Dan Walker, Bennan LaQue and Steve Keegan hit the line in 3:40.4. B’ville also was third (9:21.7) in the 4×800 as Pond worked his way to a victory in the 800 in 2:09.8, topping South Jefferson’s Don Cean (2:11.1) and the rest of the field.
Individually, Fleming took second in the 400 hurdles in 1:02.2. Perez (4:45.8) and Antonio Martinez (4:49.3) were second and third, respectively, in the mile. Chad McArdell earned sixth in the 110 high hurdles and Rickey Sparks was third in the 200.
