For a long time, the Cazenovia girls track and field team, like everyone else in the OHSL Liberty division, looked up at its fellow Lakers from Skaneateles in the standings.
That’s changed in recent years, as Cazenovia again proved Wednesday when it beat Skaneateles 90-51 in a three-way league meet at Buckley-Volo Field where the hosts also beat Solvay by a more lopsided 129-12 margin.
Paige Biviano won three times in field events. She cleared 5 feet 2 inches in the high jump, threw the shot put 28’ 7 ½” to tie teammate Molly Woodworth and, in the long jump, soared 17’ 4” to roll to first place.
Ashley Kent stepped up to win twice, going to the 100 hurdles and prevailing in 17.5 seconds before a 400 hurdles title in 1:17.9. Kent also helped Ashley Winn, Jillian Vogl and Anna Schultz go through the 4×100 relay in 52.0 seconds.
As for Winn, she easily prevailed at 100 meters (12.8 seconds) and 200 meters (26.8 seconds). Vogl, second in the 200 at 27.5 seconds, made up for it in the 400-meter dash by tearing to a season-best 59.8 seconds, leaving Winn (1:01.2) as the runner-up.
Caroline Marshall chimed in by winning the 800-meter run in 2:28.5, also teaming with Jeannette Cudney, Rae Tobey and Victoria Wright to claim the 4×800 relay in 10:13.9.
Marshall added a second in the 1,500-meter run (4:57.1) as Cudney and Tobey were second and third, respectively, in the 3,000-meter run. Sammi Marti, with a discus throw of 74’4 ½”, edged Woodworth by half an inch as, for Skaneateles, Kaela Fiutak stood out with a clearance of 10’9” in the pole vault.
