Amid a busy and important week, the Baldwinsville track and field teams both took on West Genesee Tuesday afternoon.
In each instance, the home team won. At Pelcher-Arcaro Stadium, the girls Bees roared to an 87-54 victory, while in Camillus the boys lost to the Wildcats 81-60.
Keying the girls effort, Gina Carnovale and Cierra Allen each won two events. Carnovale ran the 200-meter dash in 27.01 seconds, and went on to claim the long jump, too.
Meanwhile, Allen backed up her top time of 1:09.0 in the 400-meter hurdles by going to the 400-meter dash and winning there, too.
Gabby Jordan was first in the 100-meter dash, sprinting to victory in 12.6 seconds, with McKenzie Ross handling 800 meters in 2:28 flat. Ross, Emily Thompson, Nicole Piontkowski and Kim Cushman claimed the 4×800 relay in 10:20 as Morgan Marshall, Quaneisha Ivey, Jackie Lalla and Sarah Layton took the 4×400 relay in 4:26.0.
Moving to field events, Emily Thorpe cleared 5 feet and won the high jump, while Carlie McNamara had a top discus throw of 85 feet.
The boys meet did see B’ville win two of three relays. Connor Ross, Steve Keegan, Chris Twichell and Matt Pond covered the 4×800 in 9:03.6 before Pond, along with Nate Wicks, Dan Walker and Andrew Fleming, ran the 4×400 in 3:39.6.
In the 800, Fleming prevailed in 2:07.6, with Josh Perez tearing through the mile in 4:35.2. Alec Peinkofer stepped in and won the 3,200-meter run in 10:15.6.
B’ville also won a pair of field events as Shawn Calnan cleared 5’10” in the high jump and Pat McNamara threw the discus 109’7”.
But the Wildcats won behind a tremendous performance from senior Sean Howard, who won the 100, long jump and triple jump and also ran a leg in the 4×100 relay, where WG prevailed in 44.8 seconds.
