Hydrofracking seeps into national pop culture

“You’re as tempting and savage as Marcellus Shale.”

Not necessarily a lyric you’d find in a Beatles tune, but the newest album from psychedelic indie rockers Dr. Dog references the infamous source of natural gas named for the Central New York village.

The band hails from Pennsylvania (where hydraulic fracturing, or hydrofracking, has become increasingly divisive) so it makes sense that they’ve formed an opinion on the issue. But we have to wonder — what Central New York namesake will enter the national consciousness next? (Besides Adult World?)
