Even though the Baldwinsville girls basketball team could snare a high Section III Class AA playoff seed next month, things have turned uneven.
The Bees went to Liverpool Friday night and saw its attack stymied, especially in the second half, of a 51-39 loss to the Warriors.
It looked like a promising assignment, for Liverpool was playing its fifth game in eight days, which had started Jan. 12 with a quadruple-overtime loss to West Genesee.
Yet the Warriors were far from fatigued, playing B’ville on even terms in the first quarter and inching out to a 26-21 halftime edge. The Bees could not eat into its deficit and, instead, hit a late slump, only getting six points in the fourth quarter.
In defeat, Maggie Monnat had 16 points, with Gabi Jordan adding 11 points and Liz Giromini picking up nine points. Liverpool’s Shannon Seymour got most of her 16 points from four 3-pointers as teammate Lyteshia Price picked up 11 points.
Shaking off its Jan. 12 defeat to Corcoran, the Bees easily clinched a winning mark for the season when it hosted Henninger last Tuesday night. Led again by Monnat, B’ville put together one of its best offensive efforts of the season, rolling past the Black Knights 62-41.
B’ville managed 21 points in the first quarter. Henninger stayed within sight, though, until the Bees, ahead 31-25, held the Black Knights to three points in the third period.
Monnat simply could not be stopped, sinking five 3-pointers and 13 field goals overall on her way to a career-best 35 points. Liz Giromini offered the most help, with nine points, all from a trio of successful 3-pointers.
Following the loss to Liverpool, B’ville (9-3) mostly rests this week, but returns to action at home Friday against Oswego.
