Despite a win by the boys side, it was the Baldwinsville girls indoor track and field team that finished higher in the standings during Friday’s George Constantino Memorial Invitational at Onondaga Community College’s SRC Field House.
Overall, the girls Bees picked up 25 points, tying them with Skaneateles for sixth place. Jamesville-DeWitt, with 60 points, won the event, with Fayetteville-Manlius (47 points) fending off Cicero-North Syracuse (42 points) for second place.
Stephanie Vasteno had the B’ville girls’ highest finish as, in the 55-meter hurdles, she crossed the line in 9.98 seconds, beaten only by Homer’s Jekeytha Adkins, who won in 9.38 seconds.
Angelica Tomasello, Gina Carnovale, Cierra Allen and Quaneisha Ivey earned third place in the 4×400 relay in 4:18.45, where F-M won in 4:13.30. Carnovale, by herself, got third in the 55-meter dash in 7.74 seconds as Vasteno took fifth in 7.80 seconds.
Mackenzie Ross took fifth in the 1,000-meter run in 3:16.74 as Kim Cushman, Dana Mitchell, Chandra Hewitt and Emily McComb were sixth in the 4×800 in 11:09.12. Julia Johnson was 10th (11:53.88) in the 3,000-meter run, while Lauren Schmidt was 15th in the triple jump.
Though the B’ville boys tied for seventh in the Consantino meet with 19 points, it shared with no one in the 4×800 relay, where Alec Peinkofer, Josh Perez, Andy Fleming and Matt Pond beat the field in a time of 8:16.93, more than 22 seconds ahead of runner-up Tully (8:39.66).
Nate Wicks, Sean Maar, Dan Walker and Austin McAskill were fourth in the 4×400 relay in 3:44.99, where CNS won in 3:37.97 on its way to the team title.
Wicks, by himself, got fourth in the 300 in 38.40 seconds, while Shay Sargeant was sixth (6.91 seconds) in the 55 sprint. Kirk Anderson was 10th in the shot put, heaving it 37 feet 10 ½ inches.
B’ville’s teams both will go back to SRC Arena in search of more success in this Friday’s Bob Grieve Memorial Invitational.
