A verdict in the case of the Hancock 38 is expected Thursday.
Last month, 30 people went on trial in DeWitt Town Court, charged with two counts of disorderly conduct. All defendants chose a bench trial, leaving the decision in the hands of Hon. David Gideon.
The protesters on trial were charged after participating in a “die-in” at the main entrance of Hancock Air Base in DeWitt in April. More than 300 protested the unmanned drones, which are being used in the war on terror overseas.
The drones are often used to kill targeted members of terrorism groups, but the group protesting argues drones are used as “assassination” machines and innocent civilians often die in their attacks.
The defendants in the case are nearly all from New York, with seven from the Syracuse area. Others were from as far away as Honolulu, Hawaii.
The five-day trial included testimony from former U.S. Attorney General Ramsey Clark.
Gideon is expected to rule on the case at 5 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 1. The protesters have planned a vigil at Hancock Air Base from 3 to 4 p.m. Thursday, as well.
