A benefit for the family of Joe Ozimek III, the Clay teenager who was killed Oct. 5 in a hit-and-run accident along Route 57, is scheduled from noon to 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, at the VFW Salt City Post 348, 631 Beldon Ave., in Syracuse. Admission costs $10 for adults, $4 for kids ages 6 through 13, and is free for children ages 5 and younger. For info, call 572-6044.
Ozimek was a senior at Liverpool High School. When he died he had been walking home to Brompton Lane from his job at McDonald’s restaurant on Oswego Road.
Sheriff’s investigators say another young man, Aaron Sakran, 19, of 4225 Inverrary Drive, Clay, admitted he was driving the car that hit Ozimek, although he was unaware he had struck a person. Sakran was arraigned Oct. 6 and charged with criminally negligent homicide and leaving the scene of a fatal motor vehicle crash, both felonies.
