Improving to 4-1 in the Onondaga High School League, the Jamesville-DeWitt girls swim team went to Mexico last Wednesday and put together a 95-71 victory over the Tigers.
Kalie Coyne led the Red Rams’ efforts. On her own, she tore through the 100 freestyle in 2:06.70 and also claimed the 100 freestyle in 57.56 seconds. She also teamed with Maria Skandalis, Alden Coyne and Katie Hughes to prevail in the 200 freestyle relay in 1:53.94.
Alden Coyne had her own title, in the 200 individual medley (2:33.70), teaming with Sophia Farchione, Amanda Behan and Hayley Schultz for first in the 400 freestyle relay in 4:12.09.
Farchione got first in the 50 freestyle in 27.40 seconds, while Behan needed 1:11.28 for first place in the 100 butterfly. Taylor Cook impressed on the diving board with 219.05 points, all of this following the 200 medley relay, where Farchione, Meghan Byrnes, Morgan Gunther and Molly Hair finished in 2:01.49.
On that same night, Fayetteville-Manlius met undefeated Baldwinsville last Wednesday at the Nottingham pool, the Hornets falling to Bees 98-77.
Though B’ville won most of the individual races, Caroline Wilson gave the Hornets a bright moment when she won the 50 freestyle in 27.49 seconds. Not long after, Katie Pechacek was first in the 100 freestyle in 57.97 seconds.
Maggie Aliasso was tops in diving with 100.1 points. Gabby Hall, in the 100 breaststroke, claimed the title in 1:20.97 as Pechacek, Morgan Way, Caroline Mortelliti and Cathleen Trespasz combined to take the 400 freestyle relay in 4:06.37. Kaitlyn Martin led B’ville with wins in the 500 freestyle (5:40.50) and 200 freestyle (2:06.75).
