Improving to 3-2 on the season, the Liverpool girls swim team earned a 102-84 win over the combined Syracuse squad Wednesday night at the LHS pool.
Madison Hall earned a pair of individual titles. Hall swam the 200 freestyle in 2:10.98 and, in the 100 backstroke, held off teammate Madison Sestak, 1:08.13 to 1:09.04.
Sestak would claim the 50 freestyle in 27.10 seconds, with Ashley Zemotel (28.71 seconds) in the runner-up spot. In the 200 medley relay, Sestak, along with Zemotel, Jessica Hebblethewaite and Emily Ippolito, earned a victory in 2:07.44.
Madeline Murphy, who was third in the 100 breaststroke, did win the 100 butterfly in 1:10.53. Renee Stromski needed 2:35.61 to prevail in the 200 individual medley before she took second (1:02.83) in the 100 freestyle.
Later in the meet, Stromski, Sestak, Hall and Laura Patrick worked together and won the 400 freestyle relay in 4:19.69. Jessica Cain (131.6 points) and Kelsey Austin (123.8 points) went 1-2 in diving, while Hebblethewaite was second in the 100 butterfly in 1:14.25. Olivia Corlett added a second in the 500 freestyle.
Liverpool lost to New Hartford 106-79 a day later, the Spartans boosted by winning all three relays and getting two titles from Alexandra Mahaffy in the 200 IM and 100 backstroke.
Stromski won twice, though, claiming the 200 freestyle (2:11.64) and 500 freestyle (5:54.10), while Sestak beat the field in the 100 butterfly (1:06.87) and 100 breaststroke (1:14.37). Cain earned 169.95 points in diving as Murphy blazed to first in the 50 freestyle in 25.84 seconds.
As this went on, Cicero-North Syracuse went to undefeated West Genesee, taking a 93-87 loss to the Wildcats. Only the 400 freestyle relay team of Kim Morris, Elizabeth Hall, Nicole Blidy and Emily Altier prevailed, in 4:11.10, after WG had won every event to that point.
Stacie DeCarr picked up 188.2 points in diving, just behind WG’s Abby Uczen, who won with 200.7 points. Shannon Cahalan (100 butterfly, 100 backstroke) and Brianna Smith (200 freestyle, 100 freestyle) both won twice on the Wildcats’ behalf.
