Here are Russ Tarby’s picks for musical best bets on Friday, Oct. 7:
One-man jam band
Born 41 years ago in Fredericksburg, Va., Keller Williams has become one of the most talented and versatile musicians on the jam band scene. Over the years, he has collaborated with String Cheese Incident, the Rhythm Devils and Syracuse’s own Marty Sexton.
Williams brings his Gibson Echoplex Delay system to the Westcott Theater at 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7. Also known as K-Dub or just Keller, he was described by the Wall Street Journal as a “one-man jam-band” because of his live phrase-looping with multiple instruments.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keller_Williams – cite_note-wsj-0
A self-taught musician, Keller usually performs with an acoustic guitar connected to the Echoplex which allows him to play a riff once on his instrument, record and repeat it. This lets him play unaccompanied and include a variety of instruments in his shows.
Williams has released more than a dozen discs including “Odd” in 2009 and “Thief” by Keller and The Keels in 2010.
The Westcott Theater is located at 524 Westcott St. Tickets for Keller’s show cost $20 and $25 and all ages will be admitted; 299-8886; thewestcotttheater.com.
