A busy week of activity for the Skaneateles girls swim team included two road meets, both inside and outside the Onondaga High School League.
The non-league meet saw the Lakers visit Oswego Monday night, and it was quite competitive, though the Buccaneers prevailed by a score of 93-90.
Rachael DeWitt and Nikki Cole both won twice for the Lakers. DeWitt swam the 200 freestyle in 2:11.12 and followed it up by winning the 100 backstroke in 1:08.21.
As for Cole, she needed 26.46 seconds to earn a victory in the 50 freestyle, and also was first in the 100 breaststroke in 1:16.68, edging Oswego’s Colleen Fraser (1:17.05) in that race.
Kaela Fiutak continued to impress on the diving board, earning 207.00 points. Cole and DeWitt teamed with Rachel Teixeria and Halle King to claim the 400 freesetyle relay in 4:10.34. Haley Bucholz (1:13.77) and Kaleigh Nicholson (1:13.96) were second and third, respectively, in the 100 butterfly.
Just two days later, the Lakers made another road trip, this time to Mexico, and had a different result, putting together a 95-75 victory over the Tigers.
Cole twice prevailed in individual races, this time swimming the 50 frestyle in 26.73 seconds and also going under one minute in the 100 freestyle – 59.33 seconds, to be exact. Fiutak improved her diving total to 222.52 points, breaking her own school record.
Teixeria chimed in by winning the 200 freestyle in 2:10.17, while Colleen Ferguson won the 100 butterfly in 1:11.67, leaving Leah King (1:14.38) in second place. Skaneateles also won the 200 medley relay as Cole, King, DeWitt and Emily Wirth posted a time of 2:09.33.
Back at the .500 mark with a 3-3 record (1-2 league), Skaneateles takes on Manlius-Pebble Hill next Thursday at the Henninger High School pool.
