In both summer-like and winter-like conditions, the Baldwinsville boys golf team tried to keep up with the CNY Counties League leaders.
To start the week, the Bees faced Auburn last Monday on its home course at Radisson Greens and earned another victory, beating the Maroons 213-223.
Brendan Polsin matched Auburn star Mike May with a nine-hole total of 36. But Polsin had more help, as Sean Barron and Christian Nizamis tied for second among individuals with a 43, one shot ahead of the Maroons’ duo of Nikita Rosenblum and Kyle Hiywa. Paul Pitcher, with a 45 and Tim Rothenhoefer, with a 46, helped B’ville pull away.
A day later, B’ville made up the rained-out Sept. 7 match against Fayetteville-Manlius, also at Radisson. And the Bees came within inches of upending the unbeaten Hornets, only to take a 201-202 defeat.
Polsin had the low individual round of 37, one better than F-M’s Anthony Millimaci. Dan Strodel took third with a 39, with Niazmis adding a 40, Monaco posting a 42 and Barron shooting a 44. F-M used two 40s by Mike Lee and Nick Santaro, a 41 by Ryan Keller and a 42 by Nick Ferrucci to pull it out.
Temperatures were more than 30 degrees colder for Thursday’s match against Cicero-North Syracuse’s Green squad at Northern Pines, but the Bees got through it to beat the Northstars 201-217.
Here, Polsin really stood out, his 35 six shots better than anyone else. Rothenhoefer and Monaco both finished at 41, topping CNS Green’s Eric Hamilton (42), while Mike Muldoon stepped up for a 44.
All this led to Friday’s match against Liverpool at Radisson, and on its home course B’ville thrived, earning a 215-228 victory over the Warriors.
It was a tight race for individual honors, but Monaco won it with a 41, one better than Barron Liverpool’s Sean Martens. Rothenhoefer managed a 43, while Dan Strodel stepped up for a 44, giving the Bees four of the top five totals. Josh Pinard had a 45.
B’ville has three more matches this week, hosting Utica Proctor before trips to Central Square and West Genesee.
