American Primitive competes
One of Syracuse’s most energetic hard rock bands, American Primitive, will compete in the Monster energy drink battle of the bands at about 10:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, at the Westcott Theater, 524 Westcott St. The battle begins at 7 p.m.

Sunday sessions
You never know who’s going to show up and play at a jam session.
An acoustic jam takes place every Sunday at 1 p.m., at Kellish Hill Farm, 3192 Pompey Center Road, just outside Manlius. The suggested donation is $2, “or whatever you can give to keep the music flowing,” said Kathy Kellish. “Come listen or bring an instrument to play.”
The music is followed by a pot luck dinner at 5 p.m.; rhbamericana.com.
The Machine and more
The State Fair is spotlighting national and regional rock acts at the Talent Showcase next to the Youth Building at the northern end of Restaurant Row.
The Cab, a band from Nevada, performs at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 29, while The Machine, a popular Pink Floyd tribute act, takes the stage at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 31.
Buckethead, a former member of Guns N’ Roses, plays at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 1.
