Baldwinsville’s Lock 24 opened this past weekend.
High waters and swift currents not only delayed the opening of Lock 24 in Baldwinsville, but also Lock 26 in Clyde and Lock CS-1 connecting the Cayuga-Seneca Canal. With these openings, the 534-mile long canal system is now fully operational.
Mariners are advised to use caution because some buoys and other navigation aids may have been moved off station because of the fast running water. Floating debris also could cause a hazard. Some overhead clearances may be reduced because of the high water.
