The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation offers week-long environmental education camps for the summer season for children ages 12 to 14. Cost is $350 a week per child and offers opportunities to learn from and interact with the natural environment.
Activities include hiking, fishing, canoeing, swimming, star gazing and meeting professionals in the environmental fields. Hunter safety training from certified instructors is also available.
Camps are located at Colby and Pack forests in the Adriondaks, DeBruce in the Catskills and Rushford in Western New York, and run weekly from July 3 to Aug. 20.
