Corcoran High School was one of 1,900 high schools across the country named to the Washington Post’s first nation-wide High School Challenge.
Corcoran ranked 1,049 on the list, which ranked the top 1,900 out of 27,000 high schools across the United States, according to the Syracuse City School District’s blog.
The Challenge Index divides the number of college-level tests a school gave in 2010 by number of graduating seniors, according to The Washington Post.
The index is not a measure of the overall quality of the school, but can reveal the level of a high school’s commitment to preparing average students for the college, the Washington Post’s online site says.
Corcoran was the only school listed in the top 1,900 from Syracuse City School District and was ranked ahead of suburban counterparts Jamesville-Dewitt, Skaneateles, West Genesee, Fayetteville-Manlius, Cazenovia, Westhill, CW Baker and Cicero-North Syracuse, said the SCSD’s blog.
