Earlier today, a fire in the boys locker room at Baker High School caused the school to shut down and dismiss students and staff early.
After investigating the incident, Baldwinsville Police arrested John Gibbs, 17, a junior at the high school, and charged him with arson, criminal mischief and reckless endangerment. Police said Gibbs rigged a can of body spray to continuously spray in a closed locker as a prank. He then ignited the spray and fumes, causing the fire. There was an estimated $10,000 in damage to the locker room and other areas of the school from fire and smoke.
Gibbs was arraigned in Baldwinsville Village Court tonight. He was released on his own recognizance and scheduled to appear in village court on May 25.
