Baker High School students were evacuated this morning due to a fire in the boy’s locker room.
According to officials, no injuries were reported and all students are safe.
“The fire was brought under control and damage was contained to a small area of gym lockers,” said Jeanne Dangle, the superintendent of the Baldwinsville Central School District. “An investigation in being done by the Baldwinsville Police Department and the County Fire Investigators Unit.”
Due to smoke in the building, Baker students were dismissed for the day and transported home without returning inside the building to access personal belongings. Principal Joe DeBarbieri said no students would be allowed back in the building today except for emergency access. For those students that have items remaining inside of the school, he assured them their “items are secure and will be accessible first thing tomorrow morning.”
The fire has caused the Baker High School Jazz concert to be rescheduled and athletic practices for Varsity and JV teams only to be canceled this afternoon. DeBarbieri said both home and away athletic games will go on as scheduled.
“All athletes having games should arrive to and enter the school building through the quad entrance [exit no. 22],” he said adding coaches will meet their athletes at the entrance for supervision.
Officials said school will be in session tomorrow.
“I would like to thank all of our students and staff for their prompt assistance and cooperation this morning during the evacuation of our school building. Everyone responded appropriately and in accordance with our school safety plan,” DeBarbieri said.
