The Baldwinsville Police Department plans to implement a new program this summer that would encourage residents to lock vehicle doors.
Under the supervision of department officers, police explorers (youth interested in public safety) will check vehicle doors in predetermined areas to ensure they are locked. The explorers will also leave cards on checked vehicles either thanking residents for locking their doors and preventing crime or encouraging residents to lock up in the future.
According to Police Chief Michael Lefancheck, this is all in an effort to prevent crime.
“I think proactive programs like this are great,” said Trustee Bruce Stebbins. “[This is an] excellent step to staying away from situations we’d rather not experience.”
