At tonight’s Board of Education meeting, the Syracuse City School District is expected to announce Sharon Contreras as the new superintendent.
The board will approve a 3-year contract with Contreras to replace retiring Superintendent Daniel Lowengard effective July 1.
Contreras was one of two finalists for the position who met with the community in the first week of March. She is currently the chief academic officer of the Providence, Rhode Island public schools.
Her salary will be announced at the board meeting.
The board meets tonight at 6 p.m. in the district board room at 725 Harrison St. The meeting is open to the public.
