Bernard Taylor Jr., the superintendent of Grand Rapids Public Schools in Grand Rapids, Mich., is the first of two finalists named by the Syracuse City School District for the superintendent of schools position.
Taylor will be introduced to the community at a public reception beginning at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday March 1 at Corcoran High School, 919 Glenwood Ave.
The district will introduce the other finalist for the position, whose name has not been released, at a second reception the following night, also at Corcoran.
Parents, district employees and community members are encouraged to attend to interact with the candidates, one of whom will be selected to replace Daniel Lowengard, who will retire at the end of this school year.
Taylor currently serves as superintendent of Michigan’s third largest public school district and the second largest employer in the city of Grand Rapids. Prior to his role in Grand Rapids, Bernard served as
superintendent in Kansas City, Missouri.
