Inching closer to the tasty possibility of an undefeated regular season, the Cazenovia girls basketball team put together another sensational defensive effort in Thursday night’s 51-22 romp over Skaneateles at Buckley Gym to improve to 12-0.
Still at no. 10 in the state Class B rankings, Cazenovia had little reason to fear Skaneateles – except that those other Lakers had, in the week leading up to the game, upset Jordan-Elbridge (who were without Molly Hourigan) and edged Bishop Ludden, both in close decisions.
And here, Cazenovia only had an 8-7 lead going to the second quarter – but proceeded to dominate the rest of the half, outscoring Sknaeateles 19-3. The defense continued to crack down in a 15-4 third period that sealed the outcome.
Ellen Burr, by herself, matched the entire Skaneateles output with 22 points. Raeanne Clabeaux chimed in with 10 points, while Ashley Stec had seven points and Taylor Malmsheimer six points.
This came after subzero weather closed school Monday and, for the second time this season, postponed Cazenovia’s home game against Westhill. That will now take place Feb. 7, after the Lakers meet Marcellus next Thursday night.
