Solvay’s boys basketball put together its best week of the season so far, earning a pair of lopsided victories to end what had been a six-game skid.
The Bearcats finally got into the win column Tuesday night as it put away the Cazenovia Lakers by a score of 58-37.
Strong at the start on both ends, the Bearcats led 18-6 after one period. Cazenovia inched closer by halftime, but Solvay would dominate the second half, outscoring the Lakers 33-18.
John Savo, with 12 points, led a well-balanced attack where Dan Aiello picked up 11 points and Chuck St. Andrew earned 10 points. Deon Knighton-Kearse had six points as Tanner Whiteman led Cazenovia with 13 points.
That good feeling carried over into Thursday night’s game at Hannibal, where the Bearcats were strong in the middle stages and pulled away for a 70-48 victory over the Warriors.
Solvay trailed, 17-15, before putting together a big second quarter to seize a 37-30 lead. Not content with that, it outscored Hannibal 21-8 in the third period and sealed the win.
Knighton-Kearse took on a much larger role, finishing with 20 points. Aiello and Savo each had 10 points, with Christian Salvagni stepping up for nine points and Eric Kendrick chiming in with seven points. Solvay is home next Friday to take on Marcellus.
