VB institutes hiring freeze
The Van Buren Town Board has instituted a town-wide hiring freeze.
Supervisor Claude Sykes said considering the recently passed budget, officials want to ensure every position is “mission critical.” There will be no positions created and filled and any positions vacated during the freeze will remain vacant unless the town board deems them necessary. The only exception will be summer hires such as park and pool help, but these positions will also need to be approved by the board.
