Two more easy wins moved the Skaneateles girls volleyball team’s record to 14-1, and for good measure it participated in a tournament supporting a worthy cause.
The match part came first, commencing Tuesday night with a 25-7, 25-4, 25-12 rout of the Nottingham Bulldogs.
Gabby Eckles put together seven kills, five aces and five assists. Anna Goodell also had five aces as Caroline Walton matched Eckles’ total of seven kills. Julianna Augustine picked up five kills as Alyssa Stevens saw additional playing time and got four assists.
Three nights later, the Lakers did the same thing to Utica Proctor, and only the second game proved close during a 25-15, 25-23, 25-12 sweep of the Raiders.
Colleen Cargile worked full-time on the back line, accumulating 20 assists, six digs and three aces. Walton piled up nine kills and 16 digs, while Eckles got five aces, four kills and four digs. Augustine matched Walton’s nine-kill total as Erin Callahan contributed seven digs.
Skaneateles then traveled Saturday to Waterloo for the “Dig Pink” tournament, part of a nationwide celebration of volleyball that would raise money for the Side-Out Foundation, a group that promotes breast cancer awareness.
Once that was done, the Lakers entered a full week of practice and preparation before next Monday’s match with Rome Free Academy and, of course, the Oct. 27 rematch with Cazenovia at Buckley Gym that ends the regular season. Skaneateles and Cazenovia will also meet early in November to see who goes to the state Class B tournament.
