As grand prize-winner of the 2008 John Lennon Songwriter contest and a regular contributor to NPR, Jeffrey Pepper Rogers is well-known for his abilities as an original tunesmith. But the Fayetteville songwriter is also an unabashed Deadhead.
“This year I’ve had a blast revisiting favorite songs from the Grateful Dead,” Rogers said. He’s preparing a new solo acoustic album, “Dead to the Core,'” and a companion DVD called “Learn Seven Grateful Dead Classics for Acoustic Guitar” on Homespun Tapes.
To celebrate the new releases, Rogers will conduct a guitar workshop from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, followed by an acoustic concert of Dead songs with special guests Butternut Creek at 8 p.m. that night, all at the Westcott Community Center, 826 Euclid Ave.; 478-8634.
