Fahey to speak about Syracuse’s ‘Boy Mayor’

Onondaga Court Judge Joseph E. Fahey will deliver a presentation about Syracuse’s “Boy Mayor,” James K. McGuire, the youngest city leader in Syracuse history.

McGuire served as mayor of Syracuse from 1896 to 1901, elected as a Democrat amid the Republican stronghold of the city. He went on to become a leader in the New York State Democratic Party and was indicted and investigated by Congress.

The presentation kicks off the first Local Perceptions Series, presented by the Central New York chapter of the Irish American Cultural Institution. Fahey’s talk will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday Oct. 21 in the bistro room of Gordon Student Center at Onondaga Community College. Free for IACI members, $10 for non-members. Member meeting at 6:30 p.m. to vote for new board members. Call Margie Wipper, 636-9567, or e-mail mwipper@twcny.rr.com for more information.
