During a Sept. 7 meeting, the village of Elbridge Board of Trustees skipped a few agenda items, momentarily, to discuss a tobacco-free parks policy. The board wished to hear input from Rich Wagner with the Seymour Lofft Park Association, who came to the meeting to discuss maintenance and future improvements of the park.
Mayor Hank Doerr reflected on the county’s request about a year ago for the village to make its parks tobacco free. The county had recently followed up with a letter.
Doerr directed his attention to Wagner:
“I would like to know the Park Association’s feeling in terms of, have you seen tremendous amounts of smoking going on there?”
“I think most people, now that it’s restricted in so many places, they just assume it’s restricted,” Wagner responded.
“Has anybody complained to the association?” Doerr asked.
“No, not to us,” Wagner said. “I think you could easily put up signs I don’t think it would be an issue.”
Trustee Bob Conlan motioned to direct attorney Harry Armani to draw up a resolution to make all village of Elbridge parks smoke-free. The board approved the motion unanimously.
