As the Fourth of July approaches, the Cazenovia Lions Club is hoping to raise $8,000 toward its annual fireworks display.
The club plans on featuring more shells than ever, dwarfing last year’s display.
Two years ago, said Lion George Williams, some fireworks didn’t go off and Zambelli Fireworks promised to make the next year the “best finale ever.”
“The committee wanted to know what we had to do to get the same finale this year. So we’re doing the same finale, but we’ve added six more shells than last year.”
The cost is $500 more than last year.
The entire fireworks fund is donation-based, and the Lions ask for community support.
“Last year was the first year in the last four where the fundraiser covered the cost of the show,” Williams said.
The Lions would like to continue that tradition.
Contributions to the fund can be mailed to Fireworks Fund, P.O. Box 83, Cazenovia, N.Y. 13035.
The Lions Club will honor donors with four designations: Patriots, those donating more than $250; Stars & Stripes, those donating $100 to $250; Red, White & Blue, those donating between $50 and $100; and Citizen, those donating under $50.
The Cazenovia Leos Club, a high school branch of the Lions, has also been helping out; president-elect Teddy Tormey and secretary-elect Laura Fitch spoke to the village board in May to get approval to post the fireworks donation sign at Lakeland Park.
