Though small in numbers, the Skaneateles boys track and field team had a considerable impact as it went up the road to Marcellus for Friday’s Section III Class B-1 championship meet.
Overall, the Lakers earned 53.5 points, sixth in a nine-team field, but just behind Solvay (54 points) for fifth place. The host Marcellus Mustangs won with 106.5 points.
Austin Amory won a two-man battle in the five-event pentathlon with Clinton’s Matt Poppyack, earning 1,817 point, 203 better than Poppyack.
Sean Cooper battled to a second-place finish in the 110-meter high hurdles in 15.61 seconds, beaten only by Phoenix’s Sean McMonagle (15.30), as Cooper also took third place in the 400-meter hurdles in 59.96 seconds.
Calvin Davis went right to the wire with Hannibal’s Musa Mberwa in the 800-meter run. Davis finished in a time of 1:59.25, just edged out by Mberwa, who won in 1:58.88.
Davis also joined Sam Kriever, Paul Hamilton and Mark Cannuciari for a second-place finish in the 4×800 relay in 8:20.99, with Marcellus (7:59.41) well out in front.
In the 4×400 relay, Dan Wolfanger, Colin Wentworth, Matt Clymer and Nate Schwab gave the Lakers a fourth-place time of 3:54 flat. Xander Edwards, Nate Molnar, Max Weiss and Nico Petrocci were fourth in the 4×100 relay in 49.15 seconds.
Tim Lewis earned fourth place in the high jump, clearing 5 feet 6 inches, while Taylor Weyneth shared fifth place in the pole vault as he cleared 10 feet.
