Kanjira to jam with Shutt Friday May 21
Central New York’s most unusual musical trio, Kanjira, makes its Liverpool debut at 8 p.m. Friday, May 21, at Caf (c) at 407 at Ophelia’s Place, 407 Tulip St., in the village.
Kanjira (pronounced Kahn-JEER-ah) features the soothing and contemplative music of percussionist Karl Sperber, guitarist Carl Lovell and Liverpool’s own Tamaralee Shutt, who not only vocalizes but also blows a trumpet.
The threesome performs music ranging from the playful to the passionate by composers such as Paul Simon, Sting, Miles Davis and Pat Metheny.
Kanjira’s music draws on both jazz and world beat influences utilizing an array of instruments including acoustic and electric guitars, flutes, saxophones, trumpet, percussion and, of course, human voices.
Some of the songs they’re perform are “Fly Me to the Moon,” “Little Sunflower” and “Heavy Clouds.”
