For the second time in as many weeks, the Hamilton baseball team turned to pitching ace Kinnon Nolan-Finkel — and again, he didn’t disappoint.
With Nolan-Finkel using precision and a variety of pitches, the Emerald Knights went out Tuesday and produced a 7-1 victory over Richfield Springs.
Hamilton was now 2-0, and Nolan-Finkel had pitched both games. He allowed just two hits in five innings of work before Jack Sullivan took over to close things out.
It was close for a long while, but with the Emerald Knights ahead 1-0, it broke things open with six runs in the top of the fifth inning off RS pitcher Matt McMann. Adam MacBain and Lucas Rhyde both had key hits in the rally.
Canastota rallied to beat Waterville 3-2 in its home opener. The visiting Indians had a 2-0 edge before the Raiders scored once in the fourth inning, then pulled in front when Jake LaBarre smacked a bases-loaded single in the fifth that brought home the tying and go-ahead runs.
Alex Foster pitched the whole way, piling up nine strikeouts against four hits and two walks. Clinging to that one-run edge in the seventh, Foster set down the Waterville hitters in order to give Canastota the win.
Morrisville-Eaton took a 9-3 loss to West Canada Valley on Tuesday, as the Indians got runs in each of the first five innings to take charge. Ben Thomas took the loss as WCV’s Tyler Porter pitched for the win and also scored three runs.
