East Syracuse-Minoa’s wrestling team reached the win column last Wednesday night, dominating a non-league match against Marcellus as it beat the Mustangs 45-13.
Every match from 130 to 215 pounds went the Spartans’ way, including a quartet of forfeits to Conner Webb (145 pounds), Zach Revette (152 pounds), Dustin Moss (171 pounds) and Dylan Dupra (189 pounds).
In between, Connor Fitzpatrick, at 160 pounds, pinned Anthony Lapczyski in 1:11, while Jamie Landry (215 pounds) pinned Aaron Murphy 17 seconds into the second period.
Brendon O’Donnell (135 pounds) finished off Andrew Eberle 25 seconds into the third period as Steve Loder (140 pounds) held off Ryan Long 3-0. Jeremy Murphy (112 pounds) and Jarrett Temple (130 pounds) lost close decisions to, respectively, Keith McIntosh and Matt Dempsey.
As this went on, Fayetteville-Manlius hosted Cicero-North Syracuse and made some inroads, but still lost to the Northstars 50-24.
The Hornets took defeats in the first three matches, including close calls for Connor Wingate (130) and Jon Hajduk (135) before Ryan Kiggins put F-M on the board at 145, pinning Danny Drake late in the third period.
But after Tyler Neveldine (152) pinned Andrew Holzapfel 37 seconds into the second period, CNS took the next seven matches, with only Mick O’Bryan (215) going the full six minutes on the Hornets’ side. It ended with Josh Scalzetti (119) taking a forfeit and Tom Quinlan, at 125, pinning Alex Barry in 56 seconds.
F-M first had a non-league meet against LaFayette last Monday night and handled it with relative ease, beating the Lancers 60-21.
After a forfeit to Quinlan, Wingate went out at 130 and pinned Chris Mueller in 1:12. Two matches later, Kiggins earned his own pin over Ray Barclay midway through the third period and Neveldine pinned Mitch Burke with 45 seconds left.
Mike Mannion (171), O’Bryan (189) and Miguel Garcia (215) all took forfeits, as did Scalzetti. Jacob Norton (103) did wrestle, pinning Alex Jones 42 seconds into the third period as Tim Byrnes (112) earned his pin over Elliot Mueller just eight seconds before their match would end.
