Continuing to test itself, the Cazenovia field hockey team on Friday began play in the Camden Tournament, and immediately found success.
The Lakers beat the host Camden Blue Devils 3-1. Tori Widrick proved difficult to contain, as she netted two of the Lakers’ three goals, with Jillian Vogl getting the other.
In Saturday’s final, Cazenovia faced Morrisville-Eaton, who needed penalty stroke to oust Mount Markham in the other half of the opening round.
Nothing extra was required here, though, as the Lakers took out the Warriors 2-0, not wasting any time to gain control.
Both goals came in the first half — and both came from Abby Eschen, who got one unassisted tally and had Belle Hoagland feed her the other time. Cazenovia’s stingy defense held M-E to just two shots all afternoon.
Now at 5-0, Cazenovia was home Tuesday against Port Byron before making a Friday trip to Watertown.
