By a vote of 291 to 154, Gary White won the Liverpool mayor’s race Tuesday over independent candidate Tom Stack.
White, a six-term village trustee and a former deputy chief of the Syracuse Police Department, collected 234 votes on the Republican line and 57 on the Conservative line as compared to Stack’s 154 votes on his own Shamrock Party line.
White’s campaign stressed his year of experience in village government, while Stack,a retired Syracuse DPW driver, promised change in the form of eliminating the village trash-sticker program and taking a pay cut as mayor. The mayor’s salary is $8,000 annually, and trustees are paid half that.
Two other Liverpool Republicans ran unopposed for seats on the village board. Incumbent Dennis Hebert, a financial planner, was re-elected, while Bob Gaetano, former principal at Liverpool Middle School, will become the board’s newest member.
In all, 428 voters pulled levers on the voting machine Tuesday at the Village Hall, and 19 absentee ballots were counted for a total of 447.
Less than 30 percent of the village’s 1,617 eligible voters participated.
According to the Onondaga County Board of Elections, 561 registered Republicans now live in the village as compared to 533 Democrats, 412 not enrolled in any party, 61 Independents, 35 Conservatives, 12 Working Families Party members and three Green Party members.
