Whether it’s the spring or any other time of year, the work of the Baldwinsville girls lacrosse team never really ceases.
Aside from the regular season, there’s a Star-Spangled Tournament to host in July and fund-raisers, such as the annual fashion show, that pays for the team’s annual trip. This April, the Bees are going to California.
Long before that, though, the Bees had the small matter of starting its 2009 season, which it did last Friday with a 16-6 victory over Saratoga Springs at Herkimer County Community College.
A veteran-laded B’ville lineup set a fast pace in the first half, pulling away from Saratoga by sprinting out to a 10-3 lead. Though it slowed down a bit in the late stages, the Bees kept on building its margin.
Kara Moschetti, with four goals and one assist, led a deep and varied attack. Quincey Spagnoletti found the net three times, with Jen Fabian, Erika Bulken, Sarah Clark and Mackenzie Kjerstad each getting two goals. Maddison Frink had one goal.
Out to win its first sectional title since a state championship run in 2000, B’ville would get two big tests this week, hosting Fayetteville-Manlius on Wednesday and going to Cicero-North Syracuse on Friday night.
