Voters overwhelmingly supported a $16.9 million project to renovate Smith Road Elementary School in the North Syracuse district Wednesday.
The renovation will construct new classrooms and bathrooms, make the building more handicapped-accessible, replace the roof, upgrade the electrical system, replace windows and doors and renovate classrooms, lockers, the kitchen, cafeteria and more. The entire project is funded with state aid and the district’s capital reserve money, so there will be no tax impact. The margin was 692 to 104.
The vote passed just a day after the state announced that the school was among those in need of improvement based on state test scores.
